🔆 Sahitya Akademi Fellowship Context: Eminent author Ruskin Bond has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, the highest honour given by the literary organisation. 📍 About Ruskin Bond ✅ Born in 1934 in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, he has been active in writing for over 50 years. ✅ Notable works: Vagrants in the Valley, Once Upon a Monsoon Time, Angry River, Strangers in the Night, All Roads Lead to Ganga, Tales of FosterGanj, Leopard on the Mountain, Too Much Trouble. ✅ The 1978 Hindi film Junoon is based on his novel A Flight of Pigeons (Indian Rebellion of 1857). ✅ His stories were adapted into Doordarshan’s TV serial Ek Tha Rusty. ✅ Several works are part of India’s school curriculum. His children’s novel The Blue Umbrella (2005) was adapted into a film. ✅ Awards: Padma Shri (1999) Padma Bhushan (2019) Sahitya Akademi Bal Sahitya Puraskar (2012) 📍 About Sahitya Akademi ✅ Established on 12 March 1954, under the Ministry of Culture, it promotes literary dialogue, publication, and recognition in 24 Indian languages, including English. ✅ It functions as an autonomous organisation engaged in literary activities. ✅ Special awards: Bhasha Samman for contributions to non-formally recognized languages and classical & medieval literature.
