2025 Queen Mary Wasafiri New Writing Prize
Submission - Entries must be in English and must not have been previously published in any form. Entrants can submit an unpublished English translation of a published or unpublished work of up to 3,000 words from any written language, with the exception of modern English, alongside the original work, and an optional Translator’s Note of no more than 300 words. A single poetry entry can include up to three poems, which together total no more than 3,000 words. All prizes are for short works, not for novel/memoir extracts. Any entry which exceeds 3,000 words will be disqualified.
Open To - Writers who have not yet published a book-length work, with no limits on age, gender, nationality or background. New for 2025: Accepting work in translation.
Entry fee - A single entry costs £12, with £16 for double entry. They also offer subsidised entry.
Prize - The winners of each category will receive a £1,000 cash prize and publication in Wasafiri magazine.
Deadline - 30 June, 2025.
