In 2016, Ofsted wrote a letter to express concerns about continuing low standards and weaknesses in the quality of provision for secondary aged pupil across the Black Country.
Today, Q3 Academy Langley - in Sandwell - is one of the highest performing schools in the country.
In 2024, P8 for all pupil was +0.81. For disadvantaged pupils, it was +0.60.
From their Ofsted report:
Pupils at Q3 Academy Langley behave impeccably. They are extremely proud to meet the school’s high standards, which they affectionately dub the ‘Langleylicious Way’.
They know that their excellent manners and smart appearance send an important message to the local community...They do not want to miss classwork.
Leaders at the school attribute success to being more proactive than reactive to poor behaviour and increasing support and presence in lessons to ensure excellent behaviour for learning.
They call the strategy 'hot lessons', where they:
pick lessons to visit
track observations made
analyse the data
act upon insights
On Monday 24th Feb, Headteacher Peter Lee, and Deputy Headteacher, Rash Rahman, wil be sharing the nuances of how it works and how they implement it:
data they use
how they choose lessons
processes they follow before, during and after
mistakes they've made which you can avoid
