International Mother Language Day is observed annually on February 21 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism. This day was proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in November 1999 ¹. The theme for International Mother Language Day this year is *“Fostering multilingualism for inclusion in education and society”*. This theme highlights the importance of promoting multilingualism to create a more inclusive and diverse society ¹. In India, the Kalanidhi Division and Academic Unit of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) presents Akshar, Shabd, and Bhasha, an exhibition celebrating and honoring the linguistic diversity of India ². Globally, UNESCO emphasizes the significance of linguistic diversity, with around 40% of the population lacking access to education in their mother language ². Furthermore, every two weeks, a language disappears, taking with it an entire cultural and intellectual heritage ².
