Lee "Scratch" Perry (1936-2021) was a Jamaican music producer, singer, and songwriter. He's renowned for his innovative production techniques and influential role in shaping reggae and dub music.
Born in Kendal, Jamaica, Perry began his music career in the 1950s. He founded Upsetter Records in the 1960s and built the legendary Black Ark studio in the 1970s.
Perry collaborated with artists like Bob Marley, The Clash, and The Beastie Boys. He won a Grammy Award in 2003 and was named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
Perry passed away on August 29, 2021, at 85, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering music producer and singer.
