**Professor Phaniti Prakash Babu Appointed as Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa**
Professor Phaniti Prakash Babu has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University. The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education issued G.O.M.S. No. 6 on Tuesday, appointing him as the Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University. Professor Phaniti Prakash Babu is a Senior Professor in the Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics at the School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad.
From 1987 to 1992, he completed his research as a Research Fellow at the School of Life Sciences, University of Hyderabad. From 1992 to 1996, he served as a Lecturer in the Department of Zoology at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. From 1996 to 2000, he worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Hyderabad. He continued his academic journey in the Department of Biotechnology at the University of Hyderabad until 2006. He has also served as a Fellow at the AP Academy of Sciences (2010) and the Indian Academy of Neurosciences, Lucknow (2008).
From 2001 to 2006, he served as a Reader in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Hyderabad and later became a Professor in the same department.
Professor Phaniti Prakash Babu has held leadership positions in several prestigious organizations, including Vice-President of the Society for Neurochemistry, India (SNCI) (2012-2013), Secretary of the Asia-Pacific Society for Neurochemistry (APSN), Singapore (2006-2010), and Council Member (2010-2014). He also served as the General Secretary of the Society for Neurochemistry, India (SNCI) from 2006 to 2011.
His research focuses on neuroscience and neurodegenerative diseases. He has received numerous prestigious awards and fellowships, including the B.P. Pandey Memorial Lecture Award from the Indian Society for Parasitology (2009), the Tulasi Bai Somany Educational Trust Award from the Indian Academy of Neurosciences (2002), the Young Scientist Project Award from the Department of Science and Technology (1996), the Biotechnology Overseas Fellowship, UK (2007), the DST-DAAD Fellowship, University of Heidelberg, Germany (2006-08), the STA Fellowship, Japan Science and Technology Corporation (1999-01), and the BOYSCAST Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology (1998).
He has conducted workshops and training programs for students from various universities and colleges, particularly focusing on underprivileged and rural students, to enhance scientific knowledge among the grassroots level of society.
He has guided 22 doctoral students and 4 post-doctoral researchers and is currently mentoring 8 PhD scholars. He has published over 110 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research at more than 150 national and international conferences. He has also organized several conferences of national and international importance.
Upon the news of his appointment as the new Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University, faculty members, scholars, students, and non-teaching staff extended their warm welcome.
Professor K. Krishnareddy, who assumed charge as the In-Charge Vice-Chancellor on July 19, 2024, will hand over the responsibilities to the newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Phaniti Prakash Babu announced by
