Which energy sources will be the most viable in the next decades? The viability of some alternative energy technology has been disputed in the work of some researchers. From the current vantage point, recent estimates suggest that molten salt thorium nuclear fission, iron oxide heat, and ammonia will be globally scalable new sources of energy within the industrially feasible time window, while geothermal will be a reliable regional source. The relative scarcity of scalable energy sources to provide a global supply should prompt a more radical search for hitherto neglected or relatively obscure alternatives. New options emerge and old options can get better. For regional and local sources of energy, there exists a wide range of options. But to the extent they depend on sophisticated microcircuitry or manufacturing, they will depend on a global supply chain that may or may not be available in its present form in the future.
