_*I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity. Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me._* _~ Philippians 4:10–13_ Today’s economic system thrives by generating discontent through advertising, so to be content is an act of rebellion against the spirit of the age.  To be content is not easy, but Paul says that in Jesus it is possible! Paul says he has learnt to be content, and Philippians gives me a glimpse of what he has learnt. In particular, Paul’s life of prayer, his practice of gratitude and his commitment to choose joy, even in times of hardship, all help foster this deep sense of contentment. Above all, Paul knows that Jesus is with him, and if Jesus is with me, I can navigate all that life throws at me. I am struck by Paul’s statement, “in all circumstances”. It is so easy to be dissatisfied with my life and to compare myself to others who I think have it better than me, particularly in this era of social media. Depression and anxiety beckon! God wants to meet me in reality not fantasy, and so I choose to thank God for the goodness evident in my reality today. Pray: _I thank you Lord for my life right now. For my body, my relationships, my home, my strengths, my limitations. For my reality today. Thank you, Lord, for it all. Help me not to compare my life to others, but to be grateful for the abundant blessings of my life._
