fight-against-corruption-begins-with-you-stop-heaping-accusations-on-others _On the fast lane to 2030 by Maxwell Haitengeswinyika Teedzai_ *The collective fight against corruption begins with you: It is a moral and not political issue* | Sat Feb 1, 2025 The argument that changing our Head of State and Government HE President Dr ED Mnangagwa or Government will eradicate corruption misses a crucial point: the fight against corruption is the responsibility of every Zimbabwean. It knows no rank or status. Corruption is not a political issue; it is a moral challenge that must be addressed at the individual level before it reaches the social apex. True change begins with us. Political change cannot resolve the deep-rooted issues of corruption. It requires a shift in mindset and a genuine commitment to moral responsibility. You can change your Leaders multiple times, but that won’t eliminate the underlying moral decay. It is akin to sealing the entrance of a snake's den without addressing the snake itself. The threat will persist if the root cause remains. To effectively combat corruption, we must choose to love our neighbors as ourselves. Expecting a constitutionally elected President to step down in order to pave way for a corruption-free society is futile in itself if it doesn’t change our thoughts, habits, or character. Pursuing such change is a form of moral corruption in itself! Accountability should extend beyond the political sphere. It is our family members—husbands, wives, sisters, brothers—who engage in corrupt practices daily. The prison system and commissions at ZACC - Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission can’t change a person’s moral fiber. We must recognize that we are all accountable for our actions. Consider your own life: Do you have receipts for your possessions you bought five or six years ago? What is your behavior when you are under arrest or when your are dragged to court for a crime you know you committed? Do you pay your bills on time? How many are honest when crossing borders? These questions reflect a moral dilemma we all face. It’s time to take responsibility for our actions and move towards genuine resolutions instead of blaming the best President we have ever had in this Great Republic of Zimbabwe. Will heaven forgive us when we blame a man for our moral shortcomings? It took the Godhead to sacrifice one amongst their own to deliver us from this moral complex? Moreover, we must be our own commissioners of ZACC. If you believe there is a Leader in this country apart from our President, with the moral carthasis to end corruption in our Nation, then simply transform your personality to align with their values and become a champion against corruption just like that Leader you emulate is. Nonetheless corruption is fought best by individuals taking personal responsibility, and that is the prescription for eradicating it. Ultimately, those who enable corruption are part of the problem. If we continue to vilify the President and his Office, we will hinder meaningful change in our moral framework. It’s high time for every Zimbabwean to step up and acknowledge their role in this fight against corruption. #corruption #itisapersonalfight #endingcorruptionitbeginswithyou #accountability #moralresponsibility #thegreatrepublicofzimbabwe
