*President calls for more unity: The foundation of our Nation’s progress*
| Mon Feb 24, 2025
In the Great Republic of Zimbabwe, there lies an undeniable truth: no house can stand upon a divided foundation. HE President Dr ED Mnangagwa, accompanied by Vice President Rtd General Dr CDGN Chiwenga, in his valedictory remarks, emphasized the essence of unity, stating, “Let us remain united, vigilant, determined and focused, building our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, brick by brick, stone upon stone and step by step.” This powerful call for solidarity reminds us that a house divided against itself cannot stand.
The President’s repeated emphasis on unity is not mere rhetoric; it reflects a genuine commitment to fostering a cohesive society. At the National Youth Day held on February 21, 2025, he reiterated that “betrayal or an internal wound is more destructive than an open wound.” If we truly love our country, we must reject the flames of dissension that threaten our progress. As patriots, our goal should be to eliminate obstacles to our Nation’s advancement.
The launch of the National Youth Fund is a quintessential example of this Vision. It is not just a financial initiative but a commitment to cultivating a united spirit among our young people, ensuring lasting peace and unparalleled development in the Great Republic of Zimbabwe. The President’s message is clear: unity must precede any endeavor; without it, we risk leading our country down a path of disarray.
From the President’s speech, we glean important outcomes that demonstrate the potential of our young people. He called upon the younger generation to harness their collective energy and patriotism, emphasizing that the future of our Nation lies in their hands. The National Youth Day itself serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role our young people play in safeguarding our rich Liberation Heritage and advancing our collective dreams.
Moreover, the President’s commitment to empowering young people through key leadership placements and initiatives fosters an environment where young voices can thrive. He urged young people to embrace their responsibilities, resist divisive forces, and actively participate in building a prosperous future. The Zimbabwe Digital Skills Development Programme, aimed at training 1.5 million young people, exemplifies another vital element of the Government’s dedication to equipping young people with necessary skills for the modern economy.
As we reflect on these teachings, let us internalize that unity is not just a slogan; it is a prerequisite for our Nation’s progress. We cannot afford to sabotage National programs or fuel divisions. Instead, we must rally behind President Mnangagwa’s Vision, recognizing that our strength lies in our unity. If we are to build a brighter future for the Great Republic of Zimbabwe, we must stand together, ensuring that no one and no place is left behind.
Let us heed the President’s call to fight corruption in a manner that respects our legacy of unity so that in all the storms of life that seek to engulf us, we emerge out of each and every one of them with renewed vigor and determination. He urged all Zimbabweans to remain united, vigilant and focused in the face of internal and external threats and challenges, adding, “The journey to a united and prosperous Zimbabwe begins with each of us embracing unity so that we can effectively articulate our role as builders of our motherland”. Together, we can forge a path towards a future defined by peace, progress, and collective strength.
