IF WE DO NOT ACT NOW, COMRADE SHILLINGI SHEVO WILL DIE IN PRISON – CPMK CALLS FOR URGENT MASS ACTION AGAINST STATE BACKED TORTURE AND REPRESSION!
The Communist Party Marxist CPMK strongly condemns the illegal arrest, prosecution on trumped up charges, and continued detention of Comrade Shillingi Shevo, Chairperson of the Warehouses Committee, at Mombasa Remand Prison. His persecution is part of the broader assault on warehouse workers by the state and the capitalist class, who are determined to crush workers’ resistance against unfair remuneration and exploitative conditions.

Comrade Shillingi Shevo was brutally assaulted by hired mercenaries acting on behalf of warehouse owners under the protection of the police. This attack, which nearly cost him his life, was carried out during a meeting convened by CPMK’s National Chairperson, Comrade Mwaivu Kaluka. Rather than arresting the assailants, the police falsely accused Comrade Shillingi of assault and theft, leading to his illegal detention. He now languishes in Mombasa Remand Prison, denied justice, while his attackers walk free under the protection of the state.
In a shocking and inhumane escalation, Comrade Shillingi was again brutally beaten by the arresting officer while in police custody, just days after surviving the mercenary attack. He is now in urgent need of medical care, yet the state continues to hold him in remand, deliberately denying him treatment as part of its torture tactics. If immediate medical intervention is not secured, Comrade Shillingi could die in prison. This is not only a grave violation of his rights but an attempt to murder him in cold blood for daring to stand up for workers’ rights. We hold the Kenyan state fully responsible for his deteriorating condition and demand his immediate release and access to medical care.
This is not an isolated case, it is a deliberate strategy by the state to terrorize workers and suppress their right to organise. Just days before the attack, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI in Mombasa had summoned Comrade Shillingi in an attempt to intimidate him and derail the workers’ struggle. Similarly, the Registrar of Trade Unions recently denied waterfront workers their right to form an independent union, an outright declaration of war against the working class. These acts expose the Kenyan state as an instrument of capitalist repression, working in service of exploitative employers to maintain their profits at the expense of workers’ rights.
CPMK calls upon all workers, progressive forces, and the Kenyan masses to rise in defense of Comrade Shillingi Shevo and the warehouse workers under attack. His arrest is an attack on all workers, and it must not be met with silence. We demand his immediate and unconditional release, an end to the criminalization of workers’ struggles, and justice for all those assaulted by state backed goons.
The working class must respond to this repression with even greater unity and militancy. Now more than ever, we must intensify the fight for independent union representation, better wages, and the overthrow of the capitalist system that sustains this oppression. No amount of arrests, violence, or intimidation can stop the revolutionary resolve of the working class!
Workers arise!
Down with capitalist repression!
Free Comrade Shillingi Shevo!
Forward with the workers’ struggle for socialism!
