We, freelancers, face two common issues on Upwork: 1. We craft a personalized proposal for a job, but our proposal is not viewed, and the client also doesn't hire anyone for the job. Now, that's absolutely fine and a very normal thing. Not every client hires, and their hiring decision is not in our control. When something is not in your control, don't stress over it. 2. We craft a personalized proposal for a job, but our proposal is not viewed. However, the client hires someone else. Ouch! Now, that hurts. The client should have at least viewed our proposal, especially when there werenโ€™t too many proposals on the job (5-10), but they still didnโ€™t. And that's a problem. Was it because someone boosted a proposal? Maybe. If their proposal was better than yours and addressed the clientโ€™s problem, then fine. But if there were only a few proposals, the client should have at least viewed yours, yet they didnโ€™t bother. It could be your ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐Ÿ๐ข๐ฅ๐ž ๐ญ๐ข๐ญ๐ฅ๐ž, which appears before your proposal. Clients read proposals from left to right. Let's say a job is about creating ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐“๐ฎ๐›๐ž ๐ญ๐ก๐ฎ๐ฆ๐›๐ง๐š๐ข๐ฅ๐ฌ, but your profile title doesnโ€™t mention it. What are the chances of the client scrolling further to the right to read your proposal? You can check the screenshot attached of two proposals. Which one would you want to spend your time on? The top one that mentions something about YouTube thumbnails or the bottom one? Hence, your profile title becomes very important when sending proposals. The more closely it matches the job title the client has added, the better your chances of getting your proposal opened.
