*RESILIENCE.*
_If you stop trying in times of trouble, you are really very weak (Proverbs 24:10 EASY)._
Good evening dear friend. Happy Sunday.
There is a story in Luke 18 about the story of a blind man who heard that Jesus was passing by. He called out, _“Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”_ Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, _“Son of David, have mercy on me!”_ Jesus stopped and ordered the man to be brought to him. When he came near, Jesus asked him, _“What do you want me to do for you?”_ _“Lord, I want to see,”_ he replied. Jesus said to him, _“Receive your sight; your faith has healed you.”_ _Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus, praising God (Luke 18:35-43 NIV)._
What I find interesting in that story was the man's response to the people who tried to shut him down. The Bible tells us that he shouted all the more. We learn then that when we face opposition in the pursuit of God's purpose for our lives, we can either hang our boots and give up or we can put in more efforts and work even harder. Truth is, sometimes people oppose what they don't understand. Since they did not see what God showed us, we should not expect them to react like they can see what we are seeing. It was not okay that people tried to shut that blind man down but what would have been worse was if that man was not so dissatisfied with his situation that he would look beyond the people and see Christ who is able to make him whole. The real issue is not the people who bring adversity your way. If you fail in the day of adversity, it is you whose strength is small. So, I hope you understand that God wants us to develop tough skin. When others say there is a casting down, we must be prepared to respond that our testimony is that of a lifting up.
*Pray by faith with me thus:* "Lord, help me develop the strength of character to withstand adversity and the staying power to be determined in the face of opposition." Amen.
*Keypoint:* Resilience and perseverance are critical character traits for the fulfillment of God's purpose for our lives.
