Nairobi: Life Slowly Returning to Demolished Nyama Villa Estate In December 2024, over 70 buildings, including homes, schools, and churches, were demolished in Nairobi’s Nyama Villa estate. The demolitions, linked to a private land dispute with Muthithi Real Estate Company, displaced many families and disrupted businesses. Some former homeowners now live in rentals, while businesses struggle due to reduced population. A tenant revealed he was refunded Ksh 300,000 for land inherited from his late father, while others were ordered to vacate for non-payment. The National Police Service stated that court orders from 2013 authorized the demolitions. Now, residents are trying to rebuild their lives amid the rubble.
