๐— ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—น๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜†๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป, ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜๐—ผ๐—ปโ€™๐˜€ ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ Art lovers from near and far attended the celebration of the life and work of the famous South African poet, author and painter, Breyten Breytenbach, at the Breytenbach Centre in Wellington on Sunday. Breytenbach died on 24 November 2024 in Paris, France, after a battle against cancer. He lived there with his wife, Yolande. Sundayโ€™s event was attended by Yolande, his daughter Daphnรฉe, friends, family, local artists, actors, academics, people from the literary circles, and Breytenbach admirers. The Breytenbach Centre was once the writerโ€™s family house. The choir of Hugenote High School in Wellington, where Breytenbach once was the head boy, performed during the pre-programme. The choir sang โ€“ among other songs โ€“ a composition of his well-known poem, โ€œEk sal sterf en na my vader gaanโ€. It was especially composed for the choir by Anton Esterhuyse.
