*Delta Air Lines Boeing 717 Evacuated In Atlanta After Haze Fills Cabin*
On the morning of February 24, 2025, Delta Air Lines Flight 876, a Boeing 717-200 en route from Atlanta to Columbia, South Carolina, was forced to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport shortly after takeoff due to a smoky haze filling the cabin. The aircraft, carrying 94 passengers, two pilots, and three flight attendants, landed safely back in Atlanta around 9 a.m. Upon landing, passengers evacuated the plane using emergency slides. Two individuals received attention from emergency medical technicians, though no serious injuries were reported. Delta Air Lines has apologized for the incident, emphasizing that "nothing is more important than the safety of our customers and people." The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the cause of the haze.
This event follows a series of recent incidents involving Delta aircraft. On February 22, a Delta Airbus A350-900 bound for Sydney had to return to Los Angeles after smoke was detected in the galley. Additionally, last week, a Delta flight from Minneapolis crash-landed in Toronto, resulting in 21 injuries.
