*HOW TO PREPARE FOR A WRITTEN INTERVIEW IN THE HEALTH SECTOR BY ELEGWA* Written interview usually causes panic among majority of Medics coz it requires a combo of skills, knowledge and deeper understanding of your specific cadre... Here some Titbits that may come in handy as you prepare 1. Ensure you understand the role(Job description) thoroughly to be able to internalize the roles, skills(clinical, communication and teamwork), responsibilities and required qualifications. 2. You ought to review the relevant knowledge eg the current clinical guidelines, Standards and regulations, latest trends, technology, epidemics/pandemic, latest clinical trials, etc. 3. Ensure you practice writing skills by efficient communication, precision and conciseness... Healthcare professionals often need to convey complex information simply(Thus the saying; "If a Medic explains a complex matter using complex words/terms or ways, then (s)he has not understood the matter well himself"😅 4. Ensure adequate preparation for case-based quiz by thorough practice on how to analyze clinical scenarios and articulate your thought process simply. How would you handle a situation where a critically ill patient refuses treatment... 5. Prepare for "COMMON TOPICS" Remember, "common things happen commonly" thus be ready to discuss patient Assessment, Impression, Investigations, Diagnosis, Treatment plan and patient education(Discuss your approach). Be well versed with the pathognomonic of each common diseases(that is where most quiz emanates from) 6. Also be ready to mention something on Interdisciplinary Collaboration (In Medical Field, it is always about teamwork) 7. Do not forget to research on Crisis Management; the laid down protocols for handling emergencies/difficult situations in healthcare setting. 8. Peruse through Study sample quiz eg of past written interviews.. 9. Practice Time Management ie if the interview is timed, stay within the time limit. 10. Review Your Experiences by reflecting on your past experience including(but not limited to) clinical rotations, internship, previous jobs... 11. Stay calm and focused and be open minded... Real case👇🏼 Again, ensure you also are familiar with the structure of the Kenya Health Service from the CS, DG Health Services, downwards...(and possibly their names😅) Ensure you don't miss out on such smaller details I remember a friend went for a written interview(Locum in County) and he really sunk into books the week before... and was very confident that he had covered "everything" In the room, came the papers and there were three quiz in it..(each quiz 33 marks) *Passmark was 50* 😅 1. Name of Health CEC of the county 2. Full names of the Medsup of the County Referral Hospital 3. Full names of the Secretary who sent them emails for interview invitation My friend never passed the interview... All the best to everyone👍 ELEGWA
