*SOME FEW THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT GHANA'S LEGAL SYSTEM*
Ghana's legal system is a combination of *customary law* , *common law* , and *statutory law.*
The system is based on the English common law tradition, but has been adapted to reflect Ghanaian values and culture.
*SOURCES OF GHANAIAN LAW*
*_The Constitution_*
This is the supreme law of Ghana, which outlines the fundamental principles of governance .
*_Statutory law_*
Laws passed by Parliament that address a wide range of legal issues.
*_The Common law_*
This are legal decisions made based on judicial precedents. These are previous court decisions which serve as guides to deciding future cases.
*_Customary law_*
Unwritten law that governs personal, domestic, and contractual relationships.
*THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM*
*_Supreme Court_* : The final court of appeal and has jurisdiction over constitutional issues
*_Court of Appeal_* : Deals with appeals from the High Court.
*_Circuit courts_* : Hear civil and criminal cases, as well as family law cases.
*_District courts_* : The lowest courts in the country, which handle the most cases.
*LEGAL PROCESS*
1. Parliament passes bills, which becomes law if the President approves.
2. The law is published in the Gazette.
3. Legal practitioners undergo rigorous training and accreditation.
