*Smyrna: The Persecuted Church*
Location: Smyrna was a wealthy and powerful city on the Aegean coast, known for its loyalty to Rome and its famous street, "The Golden Street." It was also home to a large Jewish community that often opposed Christians.
History: Smyrna had experienced significant persecution under Roman rule, and the church was facing further trials and suffering. Polycarp, a famous early Christian martyr, was the bishop of Smyrna and was burned at the stake around 155 AD.
Strengths: Endurance under persecution, faithfulness despite poverty and suffering.
Message: Encouragement to remain faithful through trials, even unto death (Revelation 2:10).
