Are you an ISL Interpreter or an ISL Interpreting or Deaf Studies student?
IDS is delighted to have received the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) Human Rights & Equality Grant 2024-25 to conduct a research project called “Barriers to studying and working as an ISL Interpreter: Developing an evidence base in order to launch a campaign to increase the number of ISL Interpreters in Ireland”.
Without a suitable supply of ISL interpreters, public bodies are in breach of their duties under the ISL Act 2017 and Deaf ISL users cannot claim their right to ISL interpretation.
As part of this project, we want to understand the challenges to studying and working as an ISL interpreter. We want to also highlight the positive and enjoyable aspects of this profession. We are inviting students of ISL interpreter training programmes in Ireland (including general Deaf Studies students) and qualified ISL interpreters and Deaf interpreters (active and inactive) to complete a survey.
If this is you, please click this link to complete the survey- https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MMHM6XW
Thank you!
