*Don’t Destroy Your Family* _By Archbishop Charles Agyinasare_ _Day 34 (03/02/2025)_ > _*Proverbs 11:29 (CEB) “Those who trouble their family will inherit the wind…”*_ The family is the strength and foundation of every society. There is convincing evidence that the better our relationships are with our families, the more effective we are in our daily activities. That is why today’s reading gives a key to fortifying the family and cautions us that we will inherit nothing when we destroy our families. When we are having difficulty with a loved one, that difficulty often translates into reduced output. However, building our family ties will enhance our opportunities to succeed. Here are three ways to build a strong family: 1.⁠ ⁠*Husbands must love their wives.* The family is the basic unit of society made up of the husband, wife and/or children. For this unit to be strengthened, each one has a vital role to play. According to Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV), “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her”. Like Christ exemplified, love is the basic duty that husbands owe to their wives. 2.⁠ ⁠*Wives must submit to their husbands.* Wives are also admonished to “submit to [their] own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Saviour of the body” (Ephesians 5:22-23). Of all the things required of wives in a Biblical marriage, this is one of the most important. In other words, they must yield to their husbands' authority. 3.⁠ *⁠Children must honour their parents.* Children are an integral part of the home. The Bible instructs parents not to be hard on their children lest they become disheartened and give up (Colossians 3:21) and also commands children to honour their parents.
