I’d like to share these beautiful lines of poetry from Sheikh Abu Amr’s introduction (Part 2 of the series).
الدَّهْرُ يَوْمَانِ ذَا أَمْن وَذَا خَطر ** والعَيْشُ عَيْشَانِ ذَا صَفْوِ وَذَا كَدَر
Time is of two kinds: one of safety and one of peril * And life is of two states: one of clarity and one of distress.
أَمَا تَرَى البَحْرَ تَعْلُو فَوْقَهُ الجِيف ** وَتَسْتَقِرُّ بِأَقْصَى قَاعِهِ الدُّرَرِ
Do you not see that carrion floats atop the sea * While pearls settle in its deepest depths?
وفي السَّمَاءِ نجُوْمُ لا عِدَادَ لَهَا ** وَلَيْسَ يُكْسَفُ إِلَّا الشَّمْسُ وَالقَمَر
And in the sky, there are countless stars * Yet only the sun and the moon are ever eclipsed.
