*Expanding Rugby in Ntungamo: A Bold Step for Youth Development*
Rams RUFC/Kigezi Age Grade Rugby is expanding into Ntungamo District with support from Sports Uganda, Sembeza Africa, and the Uganda Scouts Association, among others. The district leadership has approved rugby development, with a sports teachers' training set for March 2025 at Ruhanga Development Primary School.
Regional focal persons Jude Rwakayanga and Pearson Makoma, hosted by school director Miss Anna, discussed a master plan to introduce rugby to 380 government and private primary schools across four counties. Jude emphasized partnerships to ensure equal access to rugby for boys and girls, while Pearson stressed the importance of stakeholder support for young athletes' safety and growth.
Pearson also highlighted the role of parents and government support in safeguarding athletes' rights and promoting gender-inclusive competition. Ntungamo’s Inspector of Schools, Mr. Elly, pledged support for the upcoming teacher training, ensuring fair participation for all schools.
Jude, who is also a Uganda Rugby Union Age Grade Technical Member, remains committed to nationwide rugby development despite existing challenges.
