The General Budget has highlighted creation of additional 10,000 seats for MBBS students. The present intake is 1,12,112 in both private and government institutions across the country. Quantity is important, but quality is an issue, when it comes to health education in India, as the new curriculum CBME requires facilities and faculties in optimum numbers. Indian doctors have been working throughout the world and have received good reviews. The doctors produced in India are of good standard and it has been proved time and again in different places. The present system of curriculum-based medical education was recently implemented in India. It is in a transitional phase and this year the first batch of MBBS, trained under the new curriculum, shall pass out from the medical colleges. The performance of these young doctors will indicate the quality of education imparted to them. It is also pertinent to mention that the Covid-19 pandemic had hampered their training and teachers crossed many hurdles to make the students learn the art of medicine.
