Zanu-PF pledges support for Bulawayo industries THE Zanu-PF Economic Development and Empowerment Cluster has applauded the resilience shown by local companies in the face of the adverse effects of illegal sanctions, pledging political support to promote growth and foster economic development in line with Vision 2030. Speaking during a tour of industries in Bulawayo yesterday, Zanu-PF secretary for business development, Cde Elifasi Mashaba, said the party is aware of the Government’s intention to retool Bulawayo’s industries as part of strategic initiatives aimed at supporting the national vision. The tour was intended to assess the prevailing conditions of Bulawayo’s industries and provide an objective view of their performance. “There is great potential for these companies to be revived. I am pleased that some of them are operating at about 40 to 60 percent capacity. We are also hoping to engage with line ministries to see how best they can assist, and we believe we will make an impact,” said Cde Mashaba. He added that support from the party will significantly contribute to reviving industries, creating jobs, advancing technological development, and attracting foreign investment. Cde Mashaba said companies need political will, and he stressed that they would engage with relevant authorities to provide the necessary support. The cluster toured General Beltings, Ref Air, and the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ), where company representatives presented their challenges and capabilities. The main challenge raised by most of the companies visited was foreign currency shortages, which are critical for retooling and procuring raw materials. “Despite the adverse economic sanctions imposed by detractors, the Second Republic, ably led by President and First Secretary of the party, Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa, remains committed to its vision of transforming the country’s infrastructure through flagship projects such as Gwayi-Tshangani and Tugwi-Mukosi, among others,” said Cde Mashaba. “The party, the Government, and all progressive stakeholders will closely monitor the city’s industries and business enterprises, as their viability will result in a prosperous nation.” Cde Mashaba added that the tour of companies aligns with Vision 2030, as defined by President Mnangagwa. “It also reflects the resolutions of our 21st National People’s Conference, where delegates urged the Government to initiate the revival of industries throughout the country, including Bulawayo. This initiative is also consistent with the expectations of the devolution agenda, which calls for special attention to our industries,” he said. General Belting Group General Manager, Mr Joseph Gunda, also raised the issue of the influx of cheap imports, stating that the company is capable of supplying the local market. He noted that some consumers import conveyor belts disguised as steel-coded belts, which are not currently being produced in the country. However, despite these challenges, companies have managed to improve their capacity through the procurement of new equipment, which is designed to improve quality and competitiveness. https://x.com/Samwacho/status/1890391395052965938?t=PeSGX5pVwhpADnZUA_Q1xA&s=09
