The PS for MSME Development, Hon. Susan Mang'eni, hosted Dr. Tom Mboya Owino, the President and Founder of the Grandmothers Against Malaria Initiative (GAMI). The discussions were held ahead of a grand dinner in honor of the Sisters of Galilee and the official crowning of H.E. Mama Dr. Ida Odinga as Mama Malaria Africa. The event will mark a historic moment as Mama Ida Odinga assumes the esteemed role of Patron of GAMI, succeeding the late Mama Sarah Obama. The ceremony will recognize her continued dedication to the fight against malaria across Africa, reinforcing her leadership in health advocacy and community empowerment. The PS emphasized the critical role that MSMEs play in the fight against malaria and in advancing sustainable health and economic development. “MSMEs are actively involved in producing mosquito nets, insecticides, and innovative malaria prevention solutions such as herbal repellents and eco-friendly sprays." Hon. Susan Entrepreneurs are at the forefront of developing sustainable and locally adapted solutions, such as organic mosquito repellents and malaria-resistant housing innovations. Additionally, local MSMEs in the health sector are essential in ensuring the availability and accessibility of affordable anti-malaria drugs and community-based treatment options. GAMI, under the leadership of Dr. Tom Mboya Owino, has been at the forefront of malaria prevention efforts, particularly through empowering grandmothers as key agents of change in communities. With the transition of patronage to Mama Ida Odinga, the initiative is set to expand its impact, mobilizing resources and partnerships to strengthen the fight against malaria across the continent. The dinner will not only celebrate the leadership and commitment of the Sisters of Galilee but also serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss collaborative strategies in malaria eradication, public health, and economic empowerment through MSMEs.
