Ph.D. and Postdoc Positions in Genomics and Breeding of Tropical Plants The Plant Breeding and Genetics Lab at the University of Florida Tropical Research and Education Center (TREC) in Miami, Florida, invites applications for two fully funded, multi-year research positions. Both positions will employ genetic, genomic, and artificial intelligence approaches to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying economically important agronomic traits, aiming to enhance the genetic improvement of various tropical plants. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who can work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment. Postdoctoral Research Associate Position • Annual Salary: $60,000 • Required Qualifications: o Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genetics, or a related discipline. o Strong publication record. o Experience with Linux/Unix systems and proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Perl, R, or SAS is highly desirable. • Responsibilities: o Apply multi-omics approaches (genomics, transcriptomics, and proteomics) to multiple tropical plants for developing breeding tools. o Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals. o Mentor graduate and undergraduate students. Ph.D. Student in Plant Breeding and Genetics • Annual Stipend: $31,800 • Required Qualifications: o Master’s degree in plant science, plant biology, or a related field. • Responsibilities: o Conduct research on the breeding and genetics of vanilla, a high-value spice crop for tropical and subtropical agricultural regions. o Receive training in horticulture, breeding, genetics, and bioinformatics to study speciation and evolutionary processes for breeding purposes. Additional Information • Postdoctoral Appointment: Initial appointment is for one year, renewable based on performance and funding availability. • Ph.D. Funding: Up to four years of funding support is available. • Position Availability: Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. These opportunities offer the chance to work in a cutting-edge research environment while contributing to advancements in tropical agriculture. If you are passionate about plant breeding, genetics and genomics, we encourage you to apply. To apply, please send (1) a cover letter that explains your research interests and experiences, (2) your current Curriculum Vitae, and (3) contact information for three references as a single PDF file to Xingbo Wu ([email protected]).
