Nonhlanhla Joye, owner of UMgibe Farming Organics and Training Institute, is one of the key host employers facilitating hands-on experience for 100 trainees in the New Venture Creation Business Management Level 4 Learnership. This year-long programme focuses on the agribusiness value chain and equips participants with both theoretical and practical skills. Joye emphasises the goal of producing job creators, not job seekers, ensuring trainees gain a comprehensive understanding of all facets of agriculture.
Joye herself was once a beneficiary of the Municipality’s Agribusiness programme. The initiative, supported by eThekwini Municipality, the Food and Beverages Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority and ASIME Women NPC, has provided vital skills to participants. The training began with five months of theory in February 2024 and transitioned to practical lessons in July. To date, 100 trainees have been placed with around 36 host employers, including UMgibe Farming Organics.
