Grootdraai Dam Levels Exceed Capacity as Rainfall Boosts Water Levels: 105.31%
GROOTDRAAI – As of 19 February, the dam's level stands at 27.33 meters, equating to 105.31% of its total storage capacity.
According to the latest hydrological data, the inflow into the dam is measured at 88.45 cubic meters per second, while the outflow, due to natural overflow, is recorded at 47.844 cubic meters per second.
The recent rainfall recorded at the site has reached 124.2mm, further contributing to the water level increase.
Despite the current overflow, all floodgates remain closed. However, officials have announced that one sluice gate will be opened to 1 meter at 09:00 to manage the water release efficiently and mitigate potential downstream flooding.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely and advise residents in downstream areas to stay informed about any further developments.
The public is urged to exercise caution near riverbanks and low-lying areas as water levels fluctuate.
