Position: *Construction Field Officers (4)*

The foundation focuses on providing school infrastructure to support government education strategies in countries ranked low on the Human Development Index. In Malawi, Let’s Build was registered in 2021 as a company limited by guarantee and as an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) with CONGOMA and the NGO Regulatory Authority.

The Individual
The Construction Field Officer will be responsible for inspecting classroom block construction at Community Day Secondary Schools, ensuring adherence to project specifications and national standards. The role requires strong oversight skills to monitor contractor compliance with government policies. The successful candidate should be adaptable, capable of managing multiple tasks, and willing to work in rural settings.
Contract Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 32 weeks
Qualifications
Diploma in any construction-related field OR at least two (2) construction-related certificates from a recognized institution.
A valid motorbike license and riding experience (added advantage).
Technical knowledge and skills in construction.
Job Responsibilities
1. Conduct routine inspections of construction projects to ensure quality, alignment with specifications, and timely completion.
2. Verify compliance with construction designs, drawings, and specifications.
3. Perform on-site material testing as needed.
4. Ensure construction materials meet required standards, specifications, and Bill of Quantities (BoQs).
5. Collect and report qualitative and numerical data on construction progress.
6. Orient and oversee School Management Committees (SMCs) in their roles.
7. Build and maintain strategic relationships with district authorities, school committees, and community leaders.
8. Participate in meetings with district officials, school authorities, and community leaders.
9. Review and update the site diary with all operational activities.
10. Attend site meetings and provide construction oversight.
11. Ensure all contractor activities adhere to child protection and safeguarding policies.
12. Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations on-site.
13. Enforce Let’s Build policies and government construction regulations.
14. Compile and submit detailed project reports.
Experience and Skills
Essential:
At least three (3) years of experience in the construction industry for Diploma holders.
At least five (5) years of experience for certificate holders.
Proven experience in overseeing school construction or similar projects.
Demonstrated ability to inspect contractor work.
Experience in working with rural communities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate with partners at the community and district levels.
Willingness to stay and work in remote rural areas.
Experience in contractor-led construction projects.
Knowledge of cement block construction.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
