Our world is replete with the truth of the famous alliteration, "God made man, man made money." God gave man the power to make wealth but reserved an important gift to himself; a wife. However, not merely a wife but an understanding one! A man can stack up material possessions and inheritance for his son, but when it comes to the issue of marriage, only the Lord can help a man. No one can actually help another in the place of making such lifelong choice. A man can also give some wise counsels on what to look out for and what to avoid. But in all, only the Lord himself reserves the right and power to give you a suitable partner. King Solomon wrote this verse from experience having had wisdom, wealth and 700 wives. We can sarcastically say, none of the women in his life were an understanding wife. So he was speaking from experience to tell that even wealth or wisdom can’t really guarantee you a good spouse. An understanding wife is the woman that fits you in every aspect. It got nothing to do with physical or sensual attraction, even she knows it. It is God that makes a woman compatible for you. It is therefore necessary to involve Him, trust Him and be patient with His process.
