President Trump's trade war instilled fears amongst participants of a dramatic implication on the US economy. Dow managed to stay in green closing just above the flat line, S&P closed 0.50% lower and Nasdaq closed with a cut of 1.21% . USD index saw a smart recovery from intraday lows to trade near 106.67, 10 year remained flat near 4.40% and cboe vix closed higher at 18.98. Crude futures traded off multi-weeks' lows as US imposed fresh sanctions on Iran. WTI moved near 71, Brent near 75. Indian markets continued to see downward pressure led by IT, Banking and market heavyweight RIL, worries over US trade policy and continued FPI outflows took markets lower. Sensex lost 857 points and Nifty fell 243 points to close near 22550 level. Pharma and FMCG names tried to hold fort but the selling pressure was too strong to make a difference. *Weak global cues and continued outflow of funds may cause stocks to remain volatile on Dalal Street. Participants may continue to rebalance portfolios and wait for some stability in stocks ahead of February series derivatives expiry to go through.
