Free Time with the Kids
February 19, 2025 at 09:15 PM
We went back to Wimpole Hall in Cambridgeshire, but went into the house for the first time in YEARS. Well, since before Smallest Child even existed! They had a little treasure hunt on which the kids enjoyed, as well as a craft activity. The staff were (as we pretty much always find at NT places) really friendly and informative. The library is incredible (seriously jealous) and the book collection is so big they have an overflow book room. But then considering Rudyard Kipling's daughter owned it that's not entirely surprising!
And the bath! It's literally the entire room! Apparently it was designed for more than one person to use at a time 😉.
As well as lovely gardens and a brilliant walled/kitchen garden they have a stumpery here (small but quirky) and a farm. I swear this had a lot less animals than the last time we visited, but I could be wrong. We got there just before the pigs' feeding time and the noise! It's genuinely like merry hell. I'll stick something up on stories because you have to hear it to believe it. They know their food is coming and they don't like waiting. It actually frightened the kids so we ended up not changing around until they had been fed.
We tried to do the free wassailing trail in the walled garden but TBH it was a bit rubbish and we decided not to bother.
Entry is free for NT members, otherwise admission charges apply. You can read my full review on the website https://freetimewiththekids.com/2019/01/19/wimpole-hall/
