❌🤝 Japan Demands Apple and Google to Block Five Crypto Exchanges
The Japanese Financial Services Agency (FSA) has issued an official request to Apple and Google, urging them to block the apps of five cryptocurrency exchanges that are not registered in the country. According to Nikkei, the affected platforms are Bybit, MEXC Global, LBank Exchange, KuCoin, and Bitget. ⚖️
Apple has already complied with the regulator's demand. The company had previously warned these platforms multiple times about the ban on offering services to Japanese citizens. Meanwhile, Google has not yet responded to the authorities' request. 📱
However, the imposed restrictions will not be retroactive: users who downloaded these apps before their removal from app stores will still be able to use them. As a result, the actual impact of the ban may be limited. 🔓
Japanese authorities first warned about the ban on unregistered cryptocurrency exchanges back in 2018, yet many of them continued providing services to local residents. The request to block mobile applications marks the first concrete action taken to combat illegal platforms. 🚫
Notably, in December 2024, the Japanese government expressed skepticism about the idea of creating a national Bitcoin reserve, reflecting the country's cautious stance toward the cryptocurrency industry. 🏦и
