Scholars Through Whom Allāh Preserved the Religion and Sunnah in Their Times
All praise belongs to Allāh, Lord of all worlds, and may Peace And Blessings Be Upon The Messenger of Allāh, his family, and all his companions.
To proceed:
Indeed, Allāh, out of His mercy for His servants, has taken upon Himself the preservation of His religion. Just as He made the messengers intermediaries between Himself and His creation, He also made the scholars the inheritors of the prophets and the link between people and the messengers.
Therefore, scholars are the guiding lamps of their time. Through them, Allāh revives the religion and preserves the millah and creed. They are the people of Sunnah and Ḥadīth. I will briefly mention some of these great scholars, and may Allāh unite us and them with the prophets, the truthful ones, the martyrs, and the righteous—what excellent companions they are!
1- Abū Bakr aṣ-Ṣiddīq (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): Allāh safeguarded the religion through him from the trial of apostates.
2- ʿUmar bin al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): Allāh granted victory to the Muslims over the Persian Magians through him.
3- ʿUthmān bin ʿAffān (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): Allāh, through him, preserved the Ummah from differences in the Qurʾān and unified them upon one muṣḥaf.
4- ʿAlī bin Abī Ṭālib (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): He eradicated the trial of the Khawārij.
5- ʿAbdullāh bin ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): He exposed the fitnah of the Qadariyyah and saved the Muslims in Baṣrah and ʿIrāq from their trials.
6- Imām Aḥmad bin Ḥanbal (raḥimahu Allāh): Allāh, through him, refuted the fitnah of the Jahmiyyah and those who claimed that the Qurʾān is created.
7- Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah (raḥimahu Allāh): Allāh, through him, protected the Ummah from the fitnah of misguided rationalists, the people of rhetoric, the Ṣūfīs, and the Rāfiḍah.
8- Shaykh al-Islām Muḥammad bin ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (raḥimahu Allāh): Allāh eradicated, through him, the worship of trees, stones, and graves, and spread the path of the saved sect in this era, establishing a Salafī state.
9- The second reviver, Imām ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān bin Ḥasan bin Muḥammad bin ʿAbd al-Wahhāb (raḥimahu Allāh): He supported Imām Turkī in the revival of the second Salafī Saudi state. May Allāh have mercy on both of them.
10- Imām Muḥammad bin Ibrāhīm bin ʿAbd al-Laṭīf bin ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān bin Ḥasan Āl ash-Shaykh (raḥimahu Allāh): He was the Grand Muftī of Saudi Arabia, an eradicator of innovations, a supporter of the third Saudi state, and a staunch opponent of trials and conflicts.
11- Imām ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz bin ʿAbd Allāh bin Bāz (raḥimahu Allāh): He was the Grand Muftī of Saudi Arabia and the head of the Council of Senior Scholars. Through his presence, Allāh averted grave tribulations from the land of Tawḥīd and Sunnah and supported Salafī callers worldwide.
12- The ḥadīth scholar, Imām Muḥammad Nāṣir ad-Dīn al-Albānī (raḥimahu Allāh): Allāh chose him for the revival of ḥadīth and sunnah, the defense of the Salafī methodology, and the fight against blind imitation.
13- Our esteemed scholar, the jurist and Uṣūlī Imām Muḥammad bin Ṣāliḥ al-ʿUthaymīn (raḥimahu Allāh): He renewed the correct understanding of fiqh for the Ummah, rejected blind imitation, and simplified the knowledge of creed and Ibn Taymiyyah’s works.
14- Our noble and courageous scholar, the ḥadīth expert, Shaykh Rabīʿ bin Hādī al-Madkhalī (ḥafiẓahu Allāh): He stood against many trials and misguided groups, especially the Muslim Brotherhood and the ideology of Sayyid Quṭb. Allāh, through him, extinguished many tribulations caused by certain callers and teachers, protecting many devout young people from extremism with regards to personalities.
15- Our brave and warrior Shaykh ʿAllāmah Muḥammad Amān al-Jāmī (raḥimahu Allāh): Allāh, through him, exposed the fitnah of some of the Surūrī callers and protected many young people from the misguidance of certain infamous callers.
All praise belongs to Allāh, the Lord of all worlds.
This is precisely what the Prophet, may Allāh raise his rank and grant him peace, foretold in his statement: ❝A group from my Ummah will continue to remain upon the command of Allāh. Those who abandon them or oppose them will not be able to harm them until Allāh’s command comes, and they will remain dominant over the people.❞
May Allāh raise the rank, grant peace and blessings to our Prophet Muḥammad, his family, and all his companions.
