BIG MISTAKES FARMERS MAKE WHEN NEW CHICKS ARRIVE
Farmers often lose chicks because of simple mistakes. Here's how to avoid them:
Not Warming Up the Brooder:
Warm the brooder 2-3 hours before the chicks come. This makes the room warm enough for them.
Giving Food Too Soon:
Don't give food right away. First, give them water with Glucose and vitamins for 2 hours. This helps their stomach work better.
Using Big Feeders:
Small chicks can't eat from big feeders in their first week. Use flat trays for feeding, then switch to smaller feeders as they grow.
Using Tarpaulin Instead of Paper:
Tarpaulin keeps poop wet, which can make chicks sick with coccidiosis. Use paper in the brooder to keep things clean.
Feed with Big Pieces:
Chicks need very small feed pieces, like crumbs. Big pieces are hard for them to eat and digest.
Not Covering the Litter:
Chicks can’t tell food from litter. Cover the floor with paper for the first 3 days so they don't eat the litter and get sick.
Too Hot in the Brooder:
Too much heat can dry out chicks or make them constipated. Keep the temperature just right.
By fixing these mistakes, you can help your chicks grow healthy from the start. Good care in the beginning means better chickens later on.
