*Federal Government Denies Scrapping JSS and SSS, Confirms Ongoing Education Reform Discussions*
The Nigerian government has refuted claims of abolishing the Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) systems. Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, clarified that while discussions are underway to transition to a 12-year uninterrupted basic education model, no final decision has been made. He emphasized that the National Council on Education must approve any changes before implementation. The proposed reform aims to extend compulsory education from nine to twelve years, aligning Nigeria with global education standards and enhancing students’ preparedness for higher education. Dr. Alausa assured that no changes would take effect before the last quarter of 2025.
