Pope Francis remains in critical condition, though the Vatican has confirmed he had a "peaceful" night and was rested following a prolonged asthma-like respiratory crisis. The 88-year-old pontiff continues to receive treatment for double pneumonia, requiring blood transfusions due to a low platelet count linked to anaemia. He remains on high-flow oxygen, and his prognosis remains guarded, with doctors stating he is “not out of danger.” The Vatican has begun releasing daily updates on his health at the Pope’s request, though officials declined to provide a prognosis. Francis was first admitted to Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on 14 February after experiencing severe breathing difficulties. His condition is considered particularly fragile due to his history of lung infections, including pleurisy, which led to the removal of part of a lung at age 21.
