*Union Budget 2025-26: A Betrayal of Education and Social Justice* The Union Budget 2025-26 is a direct attack on education, especially for minorities and marginalized communities. Instead of ensuring equitable access, the government has slashed scholarships, underfunded public education, and deepened inequalities all while falsely claiming ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’ The education budget has dropped to a mere 2.51% of GDP, far below the 6% recommended by the NEP 2020. Shocking cuts include: pre-matric (-39.9%), post-matric (-63.8%), and near-erasure of ST fellowships (₹2 lakh). Maulana Azad National Fellowship remains discontinued, depriving minority students of critical support. Despite boasting about IITs, medical seats, and Atal Tinkering Labs, the budget ignores the crisis in accessibility and affordability. Public universities struggle with faculty shortages, student debt is rising, and fellowships remain stagnant or delayed. The neglect of government schools in favor of elite institutions further widens disparities. SIO strongly condemns this anti-poor, anti-minority, and anti-education budget. By crippling public education and slashing scholarships, the government is shutting the doors of learning for marginalized students, reinforcing systemic oppression. We demand immediate restoration of scholarships, increased funding for public education, and an equitable education policy that serves all.
