Straight Boys 33
The TRIPLE K
Tunde: "Come, follow me, let's go."
Me: "Don't use me for ritual oo."
Tunde: "You are so funny. Oscar asked me to come."
We got a cab and left for the place. I saw a restaurant similar to the one Tunde works in, but this one was bigger. I saw Mr. Oscar—he was a handsome young man—and he welcomed us immediately. It was like Tunde had been telling him so many things about me. We sat in his office, where we had a discussion.
Oscar: "Tunde, my wedding is coming up, and I don't know the first thing about planning a wedding. What I know is—you do. I don't want too many guests, maybe 100 people from my wife's side. I don't know many people except for my immediate family. How many meals am I to budget for? I'm saying 100, but this is Nigeria—people will bring their people. How do I plan a good wedding without problems?"
Tunde: "If it's up to me, even if we want 100 people, we can get them. All we need to do is issue key cards and invitation cards to the people we actually want at the occasion."
Oscar: "What about the hall? Where am I going to hold the wedding?"
Tunde: "What do you need a hall for? This restaurant isn't big enough? All you need to do is inform the management. After all you are the manager, they'll allow you to do whatever you want and still keep the place running. It’s to your advantage."
Oscar: "Wow, I never really thought about that. You're right—we can use the event center and close down for that particular day while we have the wedding."
Tunde: "Then we'll need to get ushers, in case the workers won’t want to serve on your wedding day."
Oscar: "Oh no, they are willing to serve. Some of them are ready. All I need is strong men to hold the fort in case there are people misbehaving or causing problems. I need some form of security."
Tunde: "Don't worry, we've got that covered. This guy here is our president. We have nine strong young men with muscles that can take care of everything."
I smiled my way into the discussion.
Me: "Sir, please don’t mind him. We’re just young university men—we’re not security. But we can hold the fort for you if that’s what you want."
Oscar: "All right then, I'll be expecting your good work. That’s why I called. I need you to plan everything. I need a list of ingredients and items for food and the hall. Just give me a budget. My budget is not above 3 million. But I know if you write it, I’ll get something cheaper. If I do the budgeting with my wife-to-be, it’ll be 5 million, and I’m not willing to go that high."
Tunde started smiling and wiped away some tears.
Oscar: "Why are you crying? Did I say something wrong?"
Tunde: "No, I just remembered when we used to share that one room in Ebute Metta, and now we’re here talking about millions."
Oscar: "You are part of that major change, and so I owe it to you. Thank you so much for changing my life. Your own millions will soon start entering your pocket, I’m very sure of that. Just let me know when you need anything. Now, I must go down and continue my work as the manager. You boys can come downstairs and eat whatever you want. I’ll leave you now."
As he left, I stood up and pulled Tunde to stand with me. Then, I gave him a long hug, wiping the tears from his face.
Me: "We will be great. We will do great things. We will be better than we ever thought. All we need to do is make sure that the efforts we put in today give us a brighter tomorrow."
And then he kissed me. I pushed him away immediately.
Me: "Do you realize this is somebody's office? There may be a CCTV camera here or something! Don’t do that."
Tunde: "I'm sorry. Do we go downstairs to eat, go back home, or go to our hotel room?"
Me: "I don't have money to book a hotel right now. Let’s just go home."
Tunde: "And you’re saying you don’t miss me?"
Me: "Look, I asked you to find a way to make this business work, and you’re here thinking of other things. Alright, let’s go to the hotel—I’ve missed you anyway. I’m having the first turn."
Tunde: "Ahhhh! You had the first turn last time! And you also had me twice! You had me twice last time, and I had only one turn."
Me: "So what do you want to do now? Do you want to finish me just because I had you twice last time? Because the way you’re going, it’s like you want to tear me into pieces. Don’t make me regret this hahahahaha."
Tunde: laughs "The important thing is that we are having our secret session today."
We spent about one hour and twenty-five minutes in the hotel before we got home. When we arrived, nobody was around. We suspected they were all in the hospital with Emma, so we called to ask if we should get dinner for them there. They all agreed. We made dinner and went to the hospital to meet them.
After eating, we all came back, but this time I asked Larry to go home and sleep while I stayed with Emma, taking the first turn so I wouldn't impose on anyone else.
That night, I stayed with Emma in the hospital. We talked more about the crazy people he had lived with, and he told me some silly things. He was so free, like it was the first time he had ever had a friend to share things with.
Me: "I keep wondering—these things you're telling me right now, did you tell Larry already?"
Emma: hahaha "No. Larry is like a wife—you don’t tell your wife everything. You know that, right?"

Me: I did not know the time you married. I'm yet to get the bride price and money for everything. In short, I'm going to give you the list right now. Hahaha
Emma: Please don’t kill me with the list; it should not be too much.hahahha a
Me: Hahaha, get away you stupid, boy. When will they discharge you from here?
Emma: The doctor said if I laugh more like I laughed today, and she checks my vitals tomorrow morning, we may have to follow you home.
Me: There’s no problem. I'm willing to carry you on my back again.
Emma: Thank you so much for the last time. Why dont you find somewhere to lie down and sleep well, or are you are going to stay beside me on this bed till morning?
Me: I know I'm not the one you got married to, but I will stay with you till morning. I'm not a fan of hospitals; I cannot go about looking for where to stay.
Emma: Hahaha, so you are afraid?
Me: Yes, I am, when I have to be. There's nothing wrong with being afraid.
We spoke more and laughed a little bit before he slept. I could see him feeling sleepy, so I stopped the chattering and allowed him to sleep. He slept holding my hand.
Mustafa and Nat slept in my room, while Tunde and Ejiro slept in their own room. Larry spent the night with Martin and Obi.
Obi: Ask him.
Martin: Now is not the right time; his friend is still in the hospital.
Obi: Okay, alright, that’s true.
Larry: What are you guys whispering about? What did you want to ask me?
Martin: First of all, I hope you don’t mind—I sleep naked.
Larry: It's no problem. If you just get naked, tthen I will also get naked. We all have to sleep naked.
Obi: Oh boy, what a world.
Martin: Why did Brother Emma want to kill himself?
Obi: That’s not what you were supposed to ask, mumu.
Larry: So what is the original question you were supposed to ask? I will answer both of them.
Martin: I need, um... I want... I’m looking for how to get... I want... I don’t know how to—
Obi: Martin needs a boyfriend to be disturbing him at night so that he can stop disturbing.
Larry: So what happened to your friend here? Is he not good enough for you?
Martin: No, this one is a brother and friend. I don’t want my brother and friend to be the same as a boyfriend. They are different things. A brother and friend is somebody you can tell everything to, and even if you fight, you know that you are still brothers. A boyfriend is one that you do the other stuff with.
Larry: You are not serious. You can have all of them in one person, but it depends. But if I may ask, why do you want someone?
Martin: I feel a void; I need to cover it. I feel empty. I feel hollow. I feel like I need someone.
Larry: If what you need is not sex, all you need is right here in this room with you. It's just for you to know how to hold onto it and not spoil good things when they come to you.
Martin: Yeah, I know that one.
And he spanked Obi on the head.
Martin: I need somebody to do it with. That is the main thing.
Larry: Obi, what about you?
Obi: Omo, I’m straight like a ruler—like, you know those iron rulers that don’t break? You can use them for many, many years. That is how straight I am.
Larry: Hahaha! You know, if you were a wooden ruler, you could just remain straighs when youdo not to be bent they put you in fire, you burn to ashes and remain straight for ever but you see those ones that are straight like metal just with the right amount of fire it will bend. Eh, it will bend! Hahaha!
Martin: Hahaha! Iron bender!
Obi slapped Martin on the head.
Obi: Mumu, I am a wooden ruler then. I will burn first before I bend.
Larry: Now you are a confirmed straight guy. So the big question—why did you guys think of asking me and not others?
They both started laughing and looked confused.
Larry: So una don hear my story finish? Chai.
Martin hugged Larry.
Martin: I like you, joor.
Obi: This one don mumu ooo.
Larry: Well, there is a quiet party happening somewhere in school, but it's only for members. I don’t think they will allow new guys in. I don’t really attend, but there’s one person who can take you in without too much protocol—Nathaniel.
Obi: Eh? You say what? Which Nat? Our own Nat? Is he into guys?
Larry: Young man, welcome to the real world. There are things hidden right under your nose, but they have always been there.
Obi: Ahhh, this is strange. I don’t even believe it.
Martin: He’s in the room with us. I would have asked him to come and explain to me how to go there, but I will not be going alone. This one here will follow me.
Obi: Follow you where? I’m not going anywhere! You want me to go somewhere where they will drug me and do something to me? No way!
Martin: If I remember correctly, you are the one who brought up this idea. And if you will not be going with me, there is no need for me to go at all. There’s no need to even ask Nathaniel anything.
Obi: I just wanted you to stop all these things and at least have someone to talk to or something.
Larry: I will take you guys there myself, and we will be going with Nathaniel. But there is only one thing—your brother and his friend will not know about this, or else they will send us away.
Obi: Provided we are going to be safe... since you are coming with us, we are safe.
Martin: One way or the other, he is going to find out. It's best we tell him where we are going.
Obi: He will not allow us to go. It’s best we go first and come back, then see if our plan is going to work.
Larry: The first thing you need to know is that most of the people at this event just want to have fun. They are not coming in for love or foreplay in love. They just want to have fun, have the sexual experience, and go back to living their lives as normal straight guys. So when you go there, do not fall in love with somebody—it will make you go crazy.

Obi: Wait, wait a minute. Are you telling me that two guys, like, really used to fall in love? Like, love each other? Like, have love?
Larry: Yes, they do.
Obi: How does that work? How does that even work?
Larry: Love is not something that is controlled by human factors, so you really can't direct it the way you want. Or who you want. Once it goes on its own way, you can only manage the situation on your own. Some people that are even together are not even in love—they are just managing the situation. The person that they truly love may not love them, so instead, they go with the situation on the ground.
Obi: So two guys can fall in love? I don't even think that is possible. I'm going to see it firsthand for the first time.
Larry: But you have to behave yourself. I know that you are straight, but if somebody approaches you, just tell the person, "I'm with somebody." Don't go slapping, pushing, or fighting anybody. It is a party. Somebody can come and touch you inappropriately—just push the person away gently and tell them, "I am with somebody." Don't go there and start fighting everybody, or they will attack you and beat you out of that place. That is like a safe space.
Obi: Alright, all that's taken. My own is just to make sure that this guy here is safe. I'm going to be looking out for him.
Martin: Big head, see your head. You want to come and be looking out for me? Who is going to be looking out for you?
Larry: Your friendship is good. Make sure you hold your friendship dear. You will also see other straight guys there, but you may not know if they are straight or not. There are straight guys there who are accompanying their friends too, to protect them.
Martin: What does that even mean? Why do they have to follow them? Why can't they just have fun with their friends? Why must they escort them?
Larry: You need different types of people around you. You cannot surround yourself with the same type of people, or else you will lock yourself in a circle that you may not be able to break free from. You need a flexible circle so that at any given time, you can be free.
Obi: Okay, thanks so much.
Larry: Any other thing? I'd like to take a long sleep now. Do I still have to remove my clothes, Martins?
Martin: Please don't. You are very, very fine. I don't know what I would do to myself if I see you without your clothes today. I will sleep with my clothes on just because of you.
Obi: Hahahaha! Eheeeeeeeeeee! So your law is bendable? Thank God I saw this one with my own eyes.
Martin: Larry, this guy is a wizard! If you see what he did to me the other night—
Obi: Hahahahahaha!
Larry: I told you guys that your friendship is a good one. You should make it strong and always be together. There are very few straight people who still want to be friends with a guy that can go both ways. They feel unsafe around that person, and they will do anything possible to make that person feel bad about themselves. Some of them will even stop talking to you, claiming self-righteousness. But if you have an understanding friend like this, half of your problem is already solved.
Obi: Tell him ooooh! I am the understanding friend. If he vexes me, I'm going to leave him and run away. Haha!
Martin: Please don't do that. I will just go and try and take my life like… sorry about that. I did not mean to say that.
Larry: He did not try to take his life. He just fell into a state of depression. His body cannot take depression. Depression is a very, very bad thing, especially when your body is not used to it. Over time, it will make you look as if you have gone. He was just depressed.
Martin: I know. It's about that guy that Bro Emeka beat up that day.
Larry: I'm very tired. I did not sleep a lot last night, plus the hospital was very noisy during the day. I would like to sleep now.
And they left him to sleep, creating enough space for him on the bed. In fact, the both of them left the bed for him so that he would be free, and they both slept on the floor.
The next day, very early in the morning, the doctor said Emma was free to go, and we were like, "Yes!" It was just the both of us, and we were so happy. I asked him if he wanted everybody to come here first and have breakfast so he could go back with us, but he said no, that he would like to go and surprise everybody at home. So we prepared in order for us to make our way home early. I started arranging his stuff in the hospital bag so we could go home.
He had refused to use the hospital bathroom because it was not really neat, and he wanted to go home to use the one at home. So we prepared ourselves as we were going, but the doctor came in and asked us to wait a little because somebody was coming to see Emma. The both of us looked at each other, wondering who that would be.
Me: Do you have an idea who that person might be?
Emma: I have absolutely no idea. I really want to know, because as far as I know, I don't have anyone—except if Dare came by himself to see me. But I doubt it.
Me: I'm thinking it's the doctor who contacted somebody, and it has to be done through the school. So who pays your school fees? Are you the one that pays your school fees?
Emma: Oh yeah, that's true, that's true! No, I don't pay the school fees. The company pays my fees. The barrister said I had a trust fund somewhere—I don’t know.
Me: They have probably contacted the people who are in charge of the trust fund, telling them that you are in the hospital, since we made it clear that we were not members of your family.
Emma: Yes, yes, I guess so. I'm just expecting to see the barrister.
As we sat there waiting for the lawyer to come, we did not know that Larry, my brother, and Martin had already woken up early and decided to come before the others. Since Larry spent the night with them, the three of them came earlier, and they were happy to see us already prepared.

Larry: Since you guys were prepared, why didn't you start coming back already? Are you waiting for something else?
Me: The doctor asked us to wait for somebody. Somebody is coming from his family.
Larry: Did you just say his family?
Then suddenly, the barrister arrived. His name was Barrister John.
Barrister John: Good morning, boys. Good morning, all of you. I heard of the good job you have been doing for this young man. I'm so grateful he has friends like you. Thank you so much for everything. I'm very sorry that I am late. I just got informed only yesterday evening, and I decided to come this morning. I'm happy to hear that you are already discharged.
Me: Good morning, sir. Thank you for coming.
Then Barrister John suddenly looked shocked as he glanced at my brother. Then he looked at Martin. Martin was the one who got him shocked today.
Barrister: Are you the son of KK?
Martin: The son of who?
Barrister: I'm sorry, I mistook you for a friend of mine. You look so much like him. It’s been a long time since I saw him. Um… thank you all for being there for Emma. I would like to have the room with him, please, if you don't mind.
Me: Okay, there's no problem.
I asked Larry, my brother, and Martin to follow me to the reception area so we could prepare. We had forgotten that Emma had the car—we could have brought it and used it to drive home, but I didn’t know how many of us knew how to drive.
Barrister: Young man, I'm very sorry that I have not been very close to you lately, and I understand how life must have been for you, having no one except the fancy mansion. But I want to beg you—please hold on. Don’t die. Hold on. It is not too long before the will is read. Something might be there for you. Please, I beg of you.
Emma: I will be fine. Those guys out there are now my family. They took care of me while I was here. They brought me food three times a day, clothed me, and bathed me. I think I'll be fine. I don’t have any questions for you—except if you know how to get to members of my mother’s family. That would be one of the greatest things you have done for me.
The barrister looked confused but certain. He knew what the boy wanted and knew exactly how to give it to him, but he would wait.
Barrister: I promise to take you to your mother’s family, but first, you must wait for the will to be read. I do not know why Chief Francis insisted that this will be read after 10 years, but until we read it, we won’t know. Please, take care of yourself and stay in safe conditions.
Emma took note of everything and held on to him as the only guardian he knew since he lost his mother. The barrister came out, about to go home, and once again, he looked at Martin.
Barrister: Are you sure you do not know who KK is?
Martin: I'm very sure. I have no idea.
Me: Sir, if you could tell us the full meaning of KK, maybe we could find a meaning to it.
Barrister: Oh, it means Kelvin Kalu. We just called him KK when we were younger. Actually, we started calling him Triple K, but he liked just 2K. I’ve forgotten the meaning of the third K, but I clearly remember the two that we used to call him.
Me: Thank you so much, sir.
Then he left, and we were now ready to go home. As we were going down, I asked Martin to follow me back up to the hospital, as I had forgotten something. I told the others to wait for us downstairs. As we came back upstairs, in the middle of the stairs when no one was watching, I looked at Martin and asked him.
Me: Guy, you don’t know who your father is, and this barrister is saying you look like someone. Remember when I was in your room? The bright thing on the back of your photo with your mom was written: With love, from K. And you don’t know who K is. Don’t you think this is a good idea for you to find out?
Martin: What is wrong with you? I've respected you for a very long time. I've even loved you. I've given you my body—something I’ve never given to anyone before—and I still love you. But please, stay away from my personal business. I do not want to know who my father is. He has not been there since I was born, so why should I go and start looking for him? If he’s some rich man now, they will say I came for his money. I am doing very well alone with my mother, and I like it that way. The only person that matters to me the most is her. So right now, it is all about just me, her, and my success in life.
This was the very first time in a long time that Martin had really been truthful about his intentions. For him to stand up to me and shout at me meant he had taken the hard decision of keeping this part of his identity hidden—he did not want to know who his father was. I respected his decision, but I was bent on doing my own personal research.
My father’s name is Kenneth. Who knows which K is the last K? Since the barrister could not remember the third K, fear gripped me because I did not want to think about the possibility that the third K had anything to do with me. It would not be nice to realize that I had done this with my own brother.

Moral of the Story
No matter how angry you are, knowing where you come from is one of the most important things in life. It will help you understand where you are going, and it will shape you into the person you need to be for your future.
We are destined for greatness, achieving more than we ever imagined. Our potential knows no limits, and our actions today will shape a brighter, more successful tomorrow. With dedication, innovation, and relentless effort, we will rise beyond expectations and create a future filled with excellence.
Our journey to greatness begins with the choices we make today. With unwavering commitment, resilience, and a vision for the future, we will surpass our own expectations. Every effort we invest now paves the way for a tomorrow filled with success, impact, and endless possibilities.
It is crucial to know the direct bloodlines of your family. If you don't know all the children your father's brothers have or the children your mother's brothers and sisters have, you are putting yourself in danger. This is especially true if you are someone who sleeps with just anybody you meet. There is a real possibility that you could unknowingly be involved with a member of your own family, which could lead to serious spiritual consequences. When you disrupt your bloodline, you invite confusion, curses, and setbacks into your life.
You need to know your family members, even if you don’t have a close relationship with them. At the very least, learn who they are—for the sake of your future and for the sake of your children. Your children should not grow up and unknowingly marry or engage in relationships with their own relatives.
Sometimes, it is not easy to reveal the truth to someone all at once. Give them time to grow and mature so they can properly process and accept the truth. Maturity is not just about age—it is also about how someone receives and understands information. Be mindful of how you deliver sensitive information. Not everything should be said carelessly or without wisdom.
It is important to know who your father is, and it is equally important to know who your mother is. Understanding your roots gives you a stronger foundation for the future.
