About five million Zimbabweans (30% of the population) live abroad due to economic hardship, leading to a reliance on the US dollar. As a result, the Zimbabwean diaspora sends around US$1.8 billion home annually, primarily through Mukuru (which translates to "eldest"), a remittance platform founded by Zimbabwean, Rob Burrell. That's why #mudrecommends you watch _Transactions_ by RUMBI KATEDZA. The film condenses this complex issue by following one Zimbabwean family's struggle with #blacktax and the financial expectation of supporting relatives back home. It also explores the pressure placed on those who remain in Zimbabwe to leave the country. The film won Best Documentary at the Zimbabwe International Film Festival and is currently streaming on Al Jazeera and AfriDocs: https://youtu.be/wS8DE8MTknI?si=pG4_II_9ABGyesuF #pushafrican #thezimsituation #blacktax #migration #remittances #mud
