Deputy Minister of Higher Education, and Training, Buti Manamela, is today conducting an oversight visit, in Gauteng, to post-school education and training institutions, to engage with students, institutional management, and labour unions on key issues affecting higher education in the province.
The visit includes Ekurhuleni East TVET College and the University of Johannesburg, focusing on NSFAS funding, historic debt, accommodation shortages, and the state of readiness for the 2025 academic year.
Deputy Minister’s engagements come when the sector faces NSFAS funding challenges, including outstanding appeals and private accommodation concerns, student housing shortages, and infrastructure development.
‘’Through these engagements we aim to fast-track appeals resolutions and ensure that no eligible student is unfairly excluded from the academic year” said Deputy Minister Manamela.
The visit forms part of ongoing government efforts to strengthen access to higher education, resolve funding issues, and improve conditions for students in both the university and TVET sectors.
