SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR BARBADOS FOR ABOVE NORMAL SWELL HEIGHTS Seas will remain moderate to rough in open water today and into tomorrow, Tuesday, February 4. Therefore, A SMALL-CRAFT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT. Possible Impacts Small craft operators and beachgoers should be prepared for the possibility of large open water swells that could be hazardous to some vessels. The operation of smaller vessels may be difficult at times. There is the possibility of loss of life or injury. What you Should do Marine users are encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information on what to do. If you intend to go into the water, it is recommended that you use beaches with on-duty lifeguards. Discussion The Atlantic high-pressure system continues to generate winds of 15 to 25 knots across the Atlantic. As a result, seas remain agitated with swells of 2.0m to 3.0m affecting the marine area. Guidance suggests that swells will gradually improve from Wednesday, February 5 to around 2.0m to 2.5m for the remainder of the week. General Information A small-craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 meters (8 to 10 feet) are affecting the marine area. This small-craft advisory will be terminated at 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, or sooner if conditions warrant.
