I thought of you when I read this quote from "The Art of Not Being a Nice Guy: How to Stop People-Pleasing, Set Boundaries, and Reclaim Your Power as a Man (Personal development)" by Jens Belner - "Keep the promises you make to yourself. Sounds simple, right? But think about it — how many times have you told yourself: ● “I’m going to wake up early tomorrow.” ● “I’m going to start eating clean.” ● “I’m going to hit the gym every day this week.” And then you didn’t do it. Every time you break a promise to yourself, you tell your brain, “I can’t be trusted.” It’s subtle, but it matters. Your subconscious is always listening. If you keep breaking your own promises, your self-trust erodes. And without self-trust, you can’t have self-respect. Here’s the kicker: No one else sees you break these promises. It’s not like your boss, your partner, or your friends are calling you out. But you know. And that’s the person you can’t lie to."
