Verses 23 to 27 of the 8th chapter highlight the difference between the Upāsana Yogi and the Karmi.
The Upāsana Yogi, through meditation on Īśvara, attains Sacchidānanda Svarūpa—the changeless witness-consciousness. The Karmi, bound by action, ascends to higher realms based on puṇya but inevitably returns to saṃsāra. While karma can bring temporary pleasures, it cannot free one from rebirth. True liberation comes only through Upāsana, which refines the mind and leads to self-knowledge.
Therefore, the wise recognize Upāsana as the crucial step toward transcendence, bridging effort and effortless being, and ultimately freeing one from the cycle of samsara.
