Gypsy-Rose Blanchard is sharing her “amazing” birth story for the first time! Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, she opens up about life with her almost 8-week-old daughter, Aurora Raina, and partner Ken Urker as she prepares for Gypsy Rose: Life After Lock Up Season 2, premiering March 10 on Lifetime. One surprise? Aurora arrived a little early! “I had started dilating at 34 weeks and five days, so my OBGYN kept a close eye on me with weekly visits,” Blanchard shares. “By my 35th week, we were planning an induction for January 16—but things didn’t quite go as expected.” Blanchard adds, “It was an elected induction because Ken's mom was coming in from Austin—she really wanted to be there for the birth. So I thought, why not?” But things took an unexpected turn. “Since I was already dilating so much, I didn’t make it to my induction date or even my due date.” Fortunately, the only hiccup was timing. “At 36 weeks and three days, my water partially broke, so I went to the hospital. By the time I got there, I was already five and a half, six centimeters. They were like, ‘Okay, we’re delivering.’” Aurora’s arrival held special significance—she was born exactly one year after Blanchard’s release from Chillicothe Correctional Facility, where she served eight years of a 10-year sentence for her role in her mother’s murder. Now, as a new mom eagerly awaiting the end of her parole in June, Blanchard says she couldn’t be happier.
