The pistol shrimp’s claw snap is so powerful that it creates a bubble reaching temperatures as hot as the sun’s surface (about 4,700°C). This rapid burst generates a shockwave strong enough to stun or kill prey instantly. As the bubble collapses, it even emits a tiny flash of light—making the pistol shrimp one of the few creatures capable of producing plasma underwater.
