The term "Judas" is considered antisemitic when it is used as a stereotype to imply that Jews are traitorous, deceitful, or untrustworthy. This stems from the biblical figure Judas Iscariot, who, according to Christian tradition, betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Over time, this story has been weaponized to promote antisemitic tropes, suggesting that Jews as a whole are treacherous or motivated by greed. While the story itself is not at issue here and another word might have been used to describe the headline, It is shocking if not antisemitic for a newspaper such as the Toronto Star to print this word in 2025. I would expect a full apology to the Jewish community.
