CAN YOU DIE FOR LOVE? #onthisday, 10 years ago, February 26, 2015, the body of a 26-year-old corp member, identified as Ernest, was recovered from his one-room apartment in Obubra, Cross River State, Nigeria after he reportedly committed suicide over a heartbreak. The young man, who was in love with a fellow female corp member, Chioma Okewuru, went berserk when the girl came back from her village over the weekend with a ring from a man she had promised to marry. Ernest, who hailed from Edo State and an alumnus of the University of Benin, was posted to Cross River State in October 2014, where he met and fell in love with Chioma. They were both serving at Redemption Secondary School, Ofombogha in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State before the unfortunate incident. Before she travelled home for the weekend, the lady had told the young man that she would not marry him, but that they could be friends. So when she returned to Obubra and showed him the ring her husband-to-be gave her, the young man became furious. Four days later, the situation became worse and at about 7p.m., he locked himself in the room and took some poisonous substances. They had met at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Obubra, and as luck would have it, they were both posted to the same school where they had a relationship. He had hoped the whole thing would end in marriage, but Chioma already had another person she wanted to marry. Ernest's body was later deposited in the mortuary of Obubra General Hospital, while Chioma was arrested by the police, to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragic death. "And never was there a more story of woe; Than of Juliet and her Romeo."– William Shakespeare (1564-1616). #historyville
