*90-Year-Old Defies Age, Cultivates Five Flourishing Pfumvudza/Intwasa Plots, Demonstrating Ageless Resolve Against Food Insecurity*
In a striking display of agricultural excellence, Hon. Minister Dr. Anxious Jongwe Masuka today visited the Nherera homestead in Ward 12, Goromonzi District, where he observed, firsthand, an inspiring showcase of the Pfumvudza/Intwasa practice. The Nherera family, represented by Gogo Marimira and Mrs Nherera, demonstrated outsanding dedication to sustainable farming, cultivated a total of 14 plots showcasing the critical role of women in agriculture.
A standout moment was the commendable effort of 90-year-old Gogo Emily Marimira, who has cultivated five thriving Pfumvudza plots—three dedicated to maize, one to groundnuts, and another to finger millet. The Hon. Minister stated that her tenacity serve as a powerful testament of how Pfumvudza/Intwasa can be embraced by all, regardless of age.
He lauded these efforts, emphasising that if a widow of her age could thrive in this practice, it sets a compelling example to others. The Hon. Minister added that this is a showcase of how Pfumvudza/Intwasa strengthens rural households against food insecurity.
Meanwhile,Mashonaland East continues to assert its dominance in agricultural peformance, surpassing its maize planting target with 240,820 hectares, a testament to the province’s unwavering commitment to food production and sustainability.
